Baxter Pre School was opened in 1976. The organisation is run by a volunteer committee of management in a local government owned building.
In 2008, Baxter Pre School found itself at a cross roads and was deemed an unviable service and required ministerial approval to remain open. The committee of management worked tirelessly with all levels of government, the families, educators and local community on a strategic plan to develop and grow the service.
Baxter Pre School was part of a Universal Access pilot project in 2011 and 2012 piloting 15 hours of kindergarten for 4 year old children.
In 2012 Baxter Pre School successfully gained $1.2 million in grants from local and state government to refurbish and extend their facilities.
In 2013, the 3 and 4 year old programs were full and the service delivered 40 hours of early childhood programs each week.
Baxter Pre School are working closely with Mornington Peninsula Shire Council on the design and development of the new centre, which is set to open in 2014 at the same location. The new centre which will be named Baxter Kindergarten and Children's Centre, will enable services to be expanded further with additional, innovative programs planned to engage the local community.
Baxter Pre School have also embarked upon a project to redevelop their outdoor play space, with stage one completed in July, 2013, and stage 2 completed in January 2014.
The nine early childhood educators are supported by a Business Manager and the committee of management to deliver high quality early childhood educational programs. The program offers open ended interest/ play based experiences and is based on the Early Years Learning Framework.
The service has a strong history of continuous quality improvement closely aligned to the National Quality Framework.
Baxter Kindergarten and Children's Centre prides itself on the collaborative partnerships we have formed with families, the local community, local businesses, key stakeholders and service providers in the area.
